Paul Murphy has lived in San Jose since 1999. Both of his sons attend schools in San Jose Unified School District. Harrison is a seventh grader at Burnett Academy and Gus is a fifth grader at Horace Mann. Paulís wife Jodi Lindenthal started the Art Express Parent Docent Program at Horace Mann and has also been a tutor at Ace Charter School in East San Jose.
Paul is currently a Board member of Team Horace, the Parent-Teacher Organization at Horace Mann. Paul previously served as the President of the Horace Mann School Foundation, an organization that raised funds to support field trips and visual and performing arts opportunities for all students at Horace Mann. Paul has also served as the Treasurer of the Shires Memorial Apartments in Downtown San Jose, a below market senior housing building. Paul has held the position of President of the Horace Mann School Site Council. Paul currently works as a Healthcare Business Development Analyst at Santa Clara Valley Medical Center.
Paul earned his bachelorís degree from the University of New Hampshire and a Masterís of Public Health in Health Services Administration from San Diego State University. After a ten-year career in community mental health, Paul transitioned to a career in public policy. In addition to his previous work for Supervisor Liz Kniss, Paul has worked for State Senator Joe Simitian. Paul has worked as part of the Harvey Rose Management Audit Division to the Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors and Paul served as the Compliance & Internal Auditor at Santa Clara Family Health Plan.
In his spare time Paul supports his sons in their athletic interests. For Harrison, this is extensive skateboarding throughout California. For Gus it means baseball at the San Jose Police Athletic League or at various tournaments. Paul also coaches Gus in basketball. After coaching Gus at the Central YMCA Paul created the San Jose Celtics, a recreational team that includes children from his neighborhood that attend various public and private schools. Paul is lucky to have Nick Ferrari, an eighth grader at St. Leo's, as his assistant coach.
