Thank you for all the support you have shown me as I sought to serve on the School Board. We were not successful on Election Day. Teresa Castellanos received the majority of the votes; I have congratulated Teresa and will support her as she assumes the office in January.

On the campaign website I had offered the following about why I ran for office:

Ultimately, democracy calls on each of us to participate in whatever capacity we can. For me, participating means leading, leading the way alongside fellow Board Members to ensure academic success, financial stewardship of public assets and taxpayer resources and to bring my problem solving and budget/policy experience to the SJUSD Board of Trustees. In the end, the job is really about helping kids achieve and succeed in school so they can succeed in life.

Because of your generosity and support I was able to pursue one of my life goals, I was able to engage neighbors and the community in a serious conversation about our schools and our children, and I was able to test my conviction and strength of character – all incredible gifts that I appreciate.

We ran a strong campaign of integrity, respect and consistent effort communicating our message to the electorate. I will seek to earn the contribution you made to the campaign in the months and years to come. I have asked to become a member of the Burnett Academy School Site Council (the boys’ middle school) and I am considering coaching basketball again this year with a local sports program.

As it was before and during the campaign, it continues to be – all about the kids.
